Are One-Shoulder Backpacks About to Replace Fanny Packs?
Bella Hadid gives us a demo of the style trend.
Much like tiny sunglasses, fanny packs have been trending for a little more than a year now. Since Kendall Jenner made it her wardrobe staple, the belt bag silhouette suddenly went from being an abandoned ’90s accessory, to becoming one of the best-selling items of luxury and streetwear brands alike. Without a doubt, fanny packs have officially been resurrected and have re-entered the mainstream, and we’re in dire need of something a little different this season to give our outfits a bit of variety. Micro purses like Jacquemus’ Le Sac Chiquito are the perfect antidote to bum bags, but let’s be real, the tiny capacity of these bags doesn’t necessarily make them the most functional.
Our search for the new bag trend finally led us to an image of Bella Hadid outside the recent Dior Men Spring/Summer 2019 show. While the It-model’s highlighter yellow suit has made multiple headlines, her choice of carryall that day almost went unnoticed. On the shoulder of the younger Hadid sister was Prada‘s latest nylon backpack in a fluorescent red hue. Now here’s the plot twist: it’s no ordinary backpack, but a one-shoulder backpack (and as some people like to call it, a sling bag). Offering similar versatility and roominess of fanny packs, we’re immediately convinced that the single strap backpack will soon become the industry’s new favorite — just watch.
