ICYMI: AMBUSH Debuted SS19 Clutches in the Shape of Crushed Cans
Cop or drop?
From Alexander Wang‘s crystal-encrusted bodega bag, to Jacquemus‘ ridiculously tiny purse, there’s no doubt that designers are unafraid to flex their quirky sense of humors through their handbag designs. Adding their own take on off-kilter bags is beloved Tokyo-based label, AMBUSH. The husband-and-wife duo debuted their highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2019 collection last week at Paris Fashion Week Men’s, hosted in Atelier Brancusi at the iconic Centre Pompidou. Entitled “WAVES,” the range is heavily inspired by Hawaii and manifests in a slew of futuristic vacation-ready pieces.
Subtly flying just under the radar amongst a stunning premiere of statement pieces, onlookers may have easily missed the can clutch bags that also appeared within the roster of new garments. Providing a closer look via Instagram, the label recently presented a series of the new accessories in colorways of neon orange, ink black and metallic silver. A gold version can also be seen in the original SS19 presentation. Known for exceptionally unique jewelry items that often take on the form of banal objects such as pen caps or office ID tags, it’s unsurprisingly that designer Yoon Ahn has once again elevated an everyday object into a must-have piece of fashion art.
