5 Things You Need to Know About the Chanel Show at PFW
Including details about the infamous catwalk crasher.
Chanel is always one of the most anticipated shows of Paris Fashion Week, taking place on the final day of fashion month. The SS20 “Nouvelle Vague” collection marked the luxury house’s second since Karl Lagerfeld‘s passing and the first with Virginie Viard flying completely solo at the helm.
Staying true to the house’s core values, celebrity models like Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and rising star Mona Tougaard traversed a set that resembled Parisian rooftops. The show went from trademark tweed to timeless French glamour but even more than the collection and awe-inspiring set, all eyes were on Marie S’Infiltre, who invaded the runway during the final walk, impersonating a model. Videos quickly spread across social media of the catwalk crasher being led off the runway by Gigi Hadid but to see what else you missed out on from Chanel’s SS20 show, scroll below.

Location
As is tradition, Chanel’s show was held within the Grand Palais with the interior transformed into a stunning interpretation of Paris’ rooftops. Models glided along the painstakingly reconstructed set amongst chimneys, AC units and skylights to a soundtrack of French pop.
Collection
The entire collection was, naturally, very Chanel. Tweed reigned supreme, arriving in short sets and blazer-playsuit hybrids. Femininity was key, with peplum skirts and ruffled collars appearing alongside puffball skirts. The lineup went from signature, daywear pieces to colorful pieces where the graphic prints resembled an abstract take on the Parisian skyline. Completing the lineup was a more glamorous selection as ruffled black gowns and floor-length dresses closed out the show with optimal elegance.
The collection was made up of Chanel signatures including tweed short suits and culottes, as well as denim jackets with ruffled detailing, tailored playsuits, and puffball skirts. Looks were finished with classic straw boaters, giant Chanel clutch bags, and flat ballet pumps.
Beauty
Fittingly, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica was in charge of the beauty looks, where she opted for a pared-back style that focused on fresh faces. Flawless skin was complemented by lightly blushed cheeks and “strawberry-bitten” pink lips that gave off an aura of youthful innocence. This was perfectly matched by Sam McKnight‘s hairstyles which ranged from natural to blunt-cut long hair, soft curls and gently windswept looks.
Accessories
Practicality dominated when it came to footwear, with the heels remaining low and importantly, easily wearable. There were classic flat, black shoes with ankle straps and T-bar sandals. When it comes to bags, there was everything from classic quilted pieces in various shapes as well as cylindrical bags with wristlets and even an ultra-tiny boxy Chanel bag that’s in keeping with the micro bag trend. Ultra-layered necklaces and small boater-style hats in beige and black topped off the accessories lineup for the season.
Attendance
Chanel never fails to bring out the fashion and entertainment industry’s elite. Gracing the front row this season where the likes of BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, Cardi B, Irene Kim, Soo Joo Park and Vogue‘s Anna Wintour.
