Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2020 Collection Tackles the Concept of Tradition
A sartorial journey through boyhood.
Virgil Abloh has unveiled his Pre-Fall 2020 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton. Full of references to corporate uniforms, Abloh’s latest departs from his usual streetwear-inspired silhouettes and introduces a more tailored approach.
A sartorial journey through the various stages of boyhood, the collection begins with colorful childhood experimentation and ends in early adulthood, expressed by references to corporate dress code and the pressures to conform to a certain standard of professionalism. The Louis Vuitton monogram is rendered in kitschy multicolor on an intarsia sweater, while letters spelling out the brand are playfully scattered across a button down and matching shorts. Garments mature as the collection morphs into a study of sharp suiting — a double breasted blazer and slim trousers are paired with a wool bomber and racing-style gloves, merging formal wear with streetwear sensibility.
