Following his recent outer space HOLIDAY exhibition, KAWS has now returned with a clothbound book for those looking to collect pieces from the artist. Titled HE EATS ALONE, the latest release highlights the creative’s first-ever exhibition in the Middle East.
One year ago, KAWS presented a solo show at Doha’s Fire Station Museum, titled “HE EATS ALONE.” The in-person exhibition spanned over 40 significant works, including paintings, Companion sculptures, sneaker collaborations and more. Celebrating the show, Silvana Editoriale and Qatar Museums have put together a catalog that highlights each of these pieces, along with a deeper exploration of KAWS’ earlier creations that have been sold for millions of dollars.
Accompanying the book, art historian and curator Germano Celant shares his thoughts in an essay: “KAWS’ figures are inflected in the world through a system of global communication and distribution,” he writes. “They are delicate, original forms that joyously graft onto one another in every earthly context. They bear witness to the cosmopolitan spirit of an art ‘without place,’ that is able to convey an imaginary universe always aware of having to negotiate its presence with the already existing market of signs.”
