The Fifth 'KAWS:HOLIDAY' Location Is Literally Out of This World
The iconic Companion figure celebrates its 20th birthday in space.
After stopping by Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong and Mount Fuji, Japan, KAWS has now unveiled its fifth location for its HOLIDAY exhibition: outer space. In celebration of his latest project, artist Brian Donnelly has once again teamed up with Hong Kong-based creative studio AllRightsReserved to release a collection of special Companion figures.
Measuring at 11.5 inches, the newest figure arrives in “Gold,” “Silver” and “Black,” and is dressed in an astronaut suit. The iconic Companion character’s space journey took a total of eight hours, including preparation for lift-off, departure and landing, which was recorded with a 360-degree panoramic video camera. “So many projects have been canceled this year. I wanted to create one that could be experienced safely from home,” Donnelly said in a press release. “Because this year marks 20 years since I created Companion, I tried to find a way around all the restrictions and do something special. I felt so confined the past few months that creating a project like this has really given me a chance to escape.”
