JW Anderson’s Harry Styles Cardigan Gets Immortalized at V&A Museum
TikTok’s DIY challenge makes history.
Earlier this year, TikTok gave birth to a new trend surrounding JW Anderson‘s patchwork cardigan worn by Harry Styles on The Today Show. With a slew of Gen-Z users creating DIY versions of the garment, Jonathan Anderson released a design pattern for everyone to use. Now, the iconic item has joined a permanent collection of London‘s Victoria and Albert Museum.
Shortly after the former One Direction member’s appearance on television, the cardigan sold out with the #HarryStylesCardigan hashtag trending online. Crafty fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the piece began making their own instead. Highlighting the power of social media and desire for creativity sparked by the “new normal” lifestyle, the cardigan has been requested by the V&A to be introduced to its permanent collection. The addition also spotlights eco-conscious movements in the fashion world.
Not much is known as to when exactly the knitwear piece will go on display, but visitors will be able to see the iconic TikTok-inspired item at the V&A in the coming months.
