2020 Oscars Red Carpet: The 10 Best-Dressed Celebrities
Janelle Monáe, Laura Dern, Billie Eilish and more dressed up for the biggest night in Hollywood.
The stars have arrived on the 2020 Oscars red carpet. Wrapping up the month-long awards season, the 92nd Academy Awards is taking place Sunday evening at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Between A-list nominees like Laura Dern and guest performers Janelle Monáe and Billie Eilish, we’re highlighting the best-dressed celebrities at the star-studded event.
A true style risk-taker, Monáe turned heads in a custom silver gown by Ralph Lauren. The futuristic, crystal-embellished dress is designed with a backless detail, as well as a built-in hood that perfectly frames the singer and actress’ face. Another performer of the night, Eilish, showed up to the biggest night in Hollywood in her signature oversized two-piece set, this time coming in creamy white Chanel tweed.
Dern, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actress with her much applauded performance in Marriage Story, wore a custom Armani Privé dress in pink silk crepe, adorned with black beads and tassels along the V-neck. Cynthia Erivo, nominated in the Lead Actress category, was seen in a bespoke Atelier Versace white gown featuring an asymmetrical bustier and a voluminous skirt embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Natalie Portman made the case for capes on the red carpet, donning a Dior Haute Couture look comprised of a see-through gown and a black, floor-hitting overcoat. Look closer and you’ll find names of female directors who weren’t nominated for the Oscars embroidered on her cape — a subtle way to honor women in the film industry who aren’t recognized for their work.
Dressed by her longtime stylist Leith Clark, Lucy Boynton was all dolled up in a puffy-sleeved dress by Chanel. Rooney Mara, who accompanied her fiancé Joaquin Phoenix to the annual event, looked as stunning as ever in an Alexander McQueen black lace gown completed with tiered ruffles.
