Kanye West's YEEZY Season 8 Show Surprises Fashion Week Crowd With a Performance by Daughter North
Northie shuts down Paris Fashion Week.
Hot on the heels of his Sunday Service performance at the Bouffes du Nord theater, Kanye West continued to draw crowds at Paris Fashion Week by presenting his YEEZY Season 8 collection in the French capital Monday evening.
Live-streamed on yeezy.com, the show was staged outdoors at the Espace Niemeyer and was accompanied by a dissonant soundtrack of actual honking cars. A diverse cast of models, suited up in the artist-slash-designer’s signature neutral-colored athleisure gear, walked around the dome-shaped architecture at a deliberately sluggish pace.
The tightly-edited collection (featuring only 18 looks to be exact) is perhaps the sleekest range to date from West. Skimpy earth-tone bralettes — a wardrobe essential of the Chicago rapper’s wife Kim Kardashian, who’s among the audience at the show — were styled with pants in olive, pale gray and creamy pastels sewn with purposefully uneven stitching. As if to protect themselves against the city’s air pollution, models wore hoodies that covered up their noses. There were snowy white jackets and trousers that appeared as if they’re made of cotton balls, complemented by puffer snow boots and cloud-like slides designed with thick, rocker bottom soles.
The show was short, and despite having had to wait and stand in the cold (guests were handed out blankets), the fashion set was elated when one very special guest took the stage during the finale. North West, the designer and Kim K’s six-year-old daughter and a hip-hop star in the making, surprised the crowd with a performance that instantaneously sent social media into a frenzy.
