As quarantine boredom fuels digital trends, from Animal Crossing to TikTok dances to social distancing bingo, a new social media craze has emerged: the Pillow Challenge. Boasting over 180,000 Instagram posts tagged #pillowchallenge, the fad sees participants fashion dresses out of their bedding by belting a pillow at the waist.
The trend seems to have originated from Swedish style account @myforteisfashion and influencer duo @stylebynelli, both of whom posted selfies of their pillowcase looks on April 5. Since then, countless Instagram users have gotten creative with the prompt, accessorizing pillows with statement belts and coordinating purses. Off-White™ even partook in the challenge and shared a montage of brand devotees clad in Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ x IKEA pillows, measuring tape belts and zip-tie heels.
