Saint Laurent Drops Out of Paris Fashion Week
A decision precipitated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Citing the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic, Saint Laurent has decided to skip Paris Fashion Week for the entire year. “Conscious of the current circumstance and its waves of radical change, Saint Laurent has decided to take control of its pace and reshape its schedule,” the brand wrote in a statement. ”Saint Laurent will not present its collections in any of the pre-set schedules of 2020,” the announcement adds.
Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello told WWD that the label’s decision stems from a larger desire to break out of the traditional fashion schedule. “Slowing down and living the moment reveals all the vulnerabilities of an imprisoned organization,” Vaccarello posits. “What is out of fashion now is the schedule of the entire system: the shows, the showrooms, the orders.”
Despite Saint Laurent’s decision to skip the Spring/Summer 2021 season of fashion week, CEO Francesca Bellettini said the brand does not plan to forgo fashion shows altogether. She also stated that the decision “has nothing to do with cutting costs.”
