HBO Max to Delay 'Gossip Girl' Reboot Amid COVID-19
Bad news, Upper East Siders.
Last year, HBO Max confirmed a reboot of ’00s classic Gossip Girl, which was originally scheduled to release this fall. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the television network’s Chief Content Officer Kevin Reilly has announced that the production of the TV show has been delayed. “They hadn’t even started production yet; they were in pre-production and ready to roll,” Reilly told Vulture. A definite filming date has not yet been confirmed, but even if shooting begins this summer, the series won’t be able to air until 2021.
However, writer/showrunner Joshua Safran and original creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are still set to produce the show. The cast includes Emily Alyn Lind, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Jason Gotay, Tavi Gevinson, Zion Moreno, Thomas Doherty and Adam Chanler-Berat. Last but not least, Kristen Bell will be reprising her role as the narrator.
