Gucci Is Going Seasonless and Plans to Have Two Shows a Year Instead
Amid COVID-19, more brands are re-evaluating the traditional fashion calendar.
Following the proposal of adjusting fashion deliveries and stopping mid-season sales earlier this month by Dries Van Noten along with a group of brands and retailers, Gucci has announced that it will no longer be following the conventional fashion calendar. Designer Alessandro Michele took to Gucci’s Instagram saying:
“I will abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence, closer to my expressive call. We will meet just twice a year to share the chapters of a new story. Irregular, joyful and absolutely free chapters, which will be written blending rules and genres, feeding on new spaces, linguistic codes and communication platforms.”
According to Business of Fashion, the Italian house plans on hosting a virtual press conference with select journalists on May 25. This news also follows after Saint Laurent opted to skip Paris Fashion Week for the entire year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As more labels are re-evaluating the traditional system, it is uncertain whether more brands will follow the footsteps of Saint Laurent and Gucci.
Stay tuned while we wait for more information. In other COVID-19 news, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and British Fashion Council have called for designers to “slow down” amid the pandemic.
