'Terrace House: Tokyo' Has Been Canceled Due to the Death of Cast Member Hana Kimura

However, Netflix has decided not to take down the existing episodes of the show.

Due to the tragic death of Terrace House: Tokyo‘s cast member and wrestler Hana Kimura, the Japanese reality TV show has been canceled. According to SoraNews24, broadcasting network Fuji TV and production company East Entertainment issued a joint statement saying that “all previously available episodes are being removed from FOD, Fuji TV’s online streaming service.”

However, Netflix does not plan on taking the existing episodes down from its platform, as reported by Variety. Fuji TV made the official announcement on its website this week in Japanese that roughly translates in English to:

“We would like to express our regrets for the death of Hana Kimura and offer our sincere condolences to her family. Regarding Terrace House Tokyo, we have decided to cancel the production. We take this issue very seriously and will take active steps to formulate a response.”

The 22-year-old was a victim of cyber-bullying, which was triggered after a disagreement with a fellow cast member on the show. The official cause of Kimura’s death has not been confirmed yet, but select mainstream Japanese media outlets have predicted that it was suicide.

Our condolences are with everyone affected by the death.

If you’re going through difficulties, don’t hesitate to reach out to a suicide hotline for help.
