Kanye West Funds College Tuition of George Floyd’s Daughter & Donates $2 Million USD to Charities

After the tragic killing of George Floyd on May 25, demonstrations against racism and police violence have taken place across the U.S., UK and other cities around the world. In the wake of Floyd’s passing, Kanye West has announced via a representative that he has set up a fund to cover George’s daughter Gianna Floyd’s college tuition. In addition to his initiative, the rapper has also allocated $2 million USD to charities supporting George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

According to CNN, the generous donation includes “funding for legal fees for Arbery and Taylor’s families, along with Black-owned businesses in crisis in his native Chicago and other cities.” West’s contribution is his way of showing his support in the fight against systemic racism and police brutality, as well as seeking justice for the deaths of Floyd, Arbery and Taylor, among other victims.

West has yet to release his own statement, so stay tuned while we wait for more information. In related news, The Weeknd has donated $500,000 USD to Black Lives Matter initiatives.
