Fashion certainly does not have an age limit and this Taiwanese couple in their 80s have proven it so. Having been married for 61 years, Wan-Ji Chang and Sho-Er Hsu recently went viral on Instagram for their impeccably stylish outfits, which they put together using customers’ clothes that were left behind in their Taichung laundromat, Wan-Sho Laundry.
With the intent to raise awareness of how much the fashion industry contributes to the environment’s yearly waste, Wan-Ji and Sho-Er’s grandson Reef Chang decided to launch his grandparents’ social media account as a way to remind customers to pick up their laundry. According to Reef, over the past 60 years, Wan-Ji and Sho-Er’s shop has accumulated a total of 300 clothing pieces.

When Reef suggested assembling different outfits using the abandoned garments and posting the looks online, his grandparents agreed without hesitation. After receiving much praise from the Internet, Wan-Ji and Sho-Er realized that they should be able to freely express their creativity despite their age. “They are very happy because many netizens have encouraged and praised them. They also feel that they have done a good thing. They tell many elderly people not to limit themselves,” Reed said.
Currently at 613,000 followers and counting on Instagram, Reef plans to donate the clothes to new owners and to promote sustainable fashion initiatives. Since his grandparents’ social media debut, word spread across town and a few customers returned to the laundromat to pick up their laundry.
