An Illegal Organization Has Been Earning Millions by Reselling Hermès Birkin and Kelly Bags
Through its strategy of hiring fake customers to purchase the silhouettes in stores.
Hermès Birkin and Kelly bags are hard to come by. Recently, an illegal organization has been caught reselling the luxury purses for more than their original retail price.
Earlier this week, the group purchased the bags and resold them at a higher price at 21 Hermès stores across France and Europe, according to media outlet Le Parisien. Thankfully, the French police officials were able to arrest 10 suspects, including the organization’s leader, a Frenchman from Tunisia.
For the past four years, the unauthorized business has accumulated around half of the bags that the fashion house had produced. Their strategy included the use of student actors or individuals hired via social media to pose as a customer interested in buying a bag from the store. Reports state that these “fake customers” earned around €500 EUR ($600 USD) a day. The French police are estimating that the organization’s revenue totals up to millions of dollars.
