It seems shoppers are basking in the glow of Joe Biden‘s inauguration by re-creating the outfits Kamala Harris, Ella Emhoff and Amanda Gorman wore to yesterday’s historic ceremonies. Global fashion platform Lyst has reported a surge in searches for items including Harris’s purple Christopher John Rogers coat and the bedazzled Miu Miu ensemble worn by Emhoff, the vice president’s step-daughter.
Searches for “purple coats” spiked 809 percent in six hours, while “yellow coats” saw a staggering 1328 percent increase due to inaugural poet Amanda Gorman’s vibrant Prada outfit. Gorman’s brightly colored headband also influenced searches, causing a 560 percent jump in queries for “red headbands.” Emhoff, whose Batsheva dress and bejeweled Miu Miu overcoat made the Parsons student into an overnight style sensation, generated a 455 percent increase in searches for “Miu Miu coats.” Lastly, Bernie Sanders, whose understated outfit and nonchalant posture became the star of many memes, caused searches for mittens to soar 311 percent.
