McDonald's China Gives Its Sundae a Spicy Chili Oil Twist
Infused with generous amounts of pepper, onion, garlic and other spices.
Last month, McDonald’s China unveiled an unusual burger made out of Spam and Oreos. Now, the fast food joint has returned with another bizarre concoction made for the spice lovers out there.
Officially dubbed the “Youpo Lazi” Sundae, the limited-edition dessert is inspired by the Shaanxi Province’s signature spicy youpo noodles. The ice cream comes in its usual cup with vanilla soft serve. It is then topped with a chili crisp-infused oil featuring bits of peppers, onion, garlic and other spices.
This isn’t the first time chili oil has been incorporated into ice cream in China. The unique pairing originally went viral online back in 2018 in the Sichuan region of Chongqing and Chengdu.
If you’re a McDonald’s China member, you can redeem a free Spicy Chili Oil Sundae using a coupon at a store near you (except in the Beijing, Hebei and Liaoning provinces) on January 25.
