Nike and the NFL Pledge $5 Million USD to Girls' Flag Football

Including uniform and sports bra donations to high school teams.

Nike and the NFL have partnered on a $5 million USD grant dedicated to growing the sport of girls’ flag football in high school athletics programs. The initiative will donate up to $100,000 USD of products — including uniforms, socks and sports bras — to state athletic associations that offer girls’ flag football as a high school sport or make strides towards launching a girls’ flag football program in 2021.

Nike and the NFL hope their grant will encourage more states to adopt the sport and consequently provide women with more athletic opportunities. Currently, only six states — Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and New York — sanction girls’ flag football at the high school level. In Florida specifically, Nike will donate special uniforms to current members of high school girls’ flag football teams. The uniforms feature a woven jersey and matching shorts constructed with a waistband that complies with flag football’s “tucked in” rule.
