Prada & Miu Miu Announce Fur-Free Initiative, Starting Immediately
The announcement is part of an ongoing collaboration with the Fur Free Alliance.
Prada and Miu Miu have joined the ranks of prestigious fashion houses as they’ve both announced they’ll no longer be using animal fur in their designs or new products. The iconic Prada Group companies took to Instagram recently to share the news which is part of a collaboration with the Fur Free Alliance.
Both brands noted that their upcoming Spring/Summer 2020 shows will not feature any fur. Earlier this month, anti-fur protestors were outside of the Prada Resort 2020 show in New York City, as reported by The New York Times. According to a WWD report from last September, the Fur Free Alliance called Prada out for its use of animal fur. Reportedly, thousands of emails were sent to Prada by the organizations that are a part of the aforementioned organization in addition to personal email accounts of staffers. After this massive outcall, Prada Group responded by releasing a statement sharing it had a “gradual and concrete reduction” of fur pieces.
In the past, Chanel, Burberry, Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors have announced their shift away from using fur in their collections. Burberry even took things a step further by sharing that they’d begin phasing fur out of their current lines back in September.
In an official statement, the co-chief executive and lead creative director of Prada, Miuccia Prada shared the following:
“The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility, and our fur-free policy – reached following a positive dialogue with the Fur Free Alliance, in particular with LAV and the Humane Society of the United States – is an extension of that engagement. Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.”
