Kris Van Assche Announces Departure From Berluti After 3 Years
Making the FW21 collection revealed earlier this month his last.
Kris Van Assche is leaving his position as artistic director at Berluti after three years. The designer had succeeded Haider Ackermann to lead the house in 2018 following his time at Dior for 11 years.
“These three years at Berluti have been extremely intense. Reinventing and reshaping the brand’s DNA, its history and tradition, craft and luxury in a contemporary and creative manner was definitely a challenge, and all limitations and restrictions around COVID-19 didn’t help,” the Belgian creative took to Instagram to share the news. “I want to express endless gratitude to my creative team for always delivering miracles, no matter what. You know what you did, how you had to do it, and you can be proud. I sure am proud of you, of us,” he continued, further explaining that the French house has plans to make changes to its fashion calendar.
This means that Van Assche’s final collection for Berluti was for Fall/Winter 2021, which was revealed on April 8. Throughout the past few years, the designer had been credited for bringing Berluti a wider audience, especially in Asia. He was also praised for solidifying Berluti’s brand identity while building the house’s ready-to-wear line. “In order to maintain our commitment to both savoir-faire and innovation we have decided to let Berluti lead its own rhythm and give freedom to its presentation schedule. He has brought his own vision to Berluti, particularly by integrating new codes into its signatures,” CEO Antoine Arnault commented in a statement.
