FLO Becomes First-Ever Group to Win BRITs Rising Star Award

“We’ve just made history and couldn’t have done it without our wonderful fans.”

British girl band FLO just became the first-ever group to win the BRITs Rising Star award, just seven months after releasing their first official single. The news was revealed by Clara Amfo on her BBC Radio 1 Future Sounds show, ahead of the 2023 BRIT Awards ceremony which will take place in February.

On receiving the incredible accolade, FLO said “From growing up watching the BRITs, to finding each other and forming FLO, releasing our first body of work in 2022 and winning a BRIT award in the same year!! We are so shocked and grateful. We are the first group to win the BRITs Rising Star! We’ve just made history and couldn’t have done it without our wonderful fans and supportive families. It’s truly a dream come true. We feel so empowered creating the music we love and we hope others feel that too.”

The band beat out the likes of Cat Burns and Nia Archives for the win, the latter of which won ‘Best Electronic/Dance Act’ at the 2022 MOBO Awards. Previous winners of the award have included the likes of Adele, Florence + The Machine, Sam Smith, Celeste, Griff and Holly Humberstone.

FLO first formed back in 2019 and released their debut single ‘Cardboard Box’ earlier this year. Their debut EP, The Lead, came shortly after and gained over 70 million global streams. Since then, the band has amassed a pretty large fanbase, one which includes the likes of Brandy, JoJo, SZA and Victoria Monét. In the last few months, the group has gone on to make several TV appearances and was dubbed ‘Best Newcomer’ at this year’s MOBOs.

Essentially, it’s clear that we can expect pretty big things from FLO in the coming years, and we’ll be keeping a very close eye on them in 2023.
