Kim Kardashian Reveals Why She Took Her Time To Address the Balenciaga Scandal
Regarding the fashion house’s recent holiday campaign.
Kim Kardashian has finally addressed all the Balenciaga backlash she received from not addressing the fashion house’s holiday campaign controversy.
In November, Balenciaga released a campaign involving children holding toys dressed in bondage and BDSM gear. There were also partially hidden documents pertaining to a child pornography involved. As a result, several have tried to immediately cancel the brand. Kardashian addressed the issue, stating she was “disgusted and outraged by the recent Balenciaga campaigns” and was “reevaluating” her relationship with them. However, many were disappointed that Kardashian did not speak sooner.
During a new interview for Angie Martinez’ In Real Life podcast, Kardashian shared her thoughts on the backlash.
“With the Balenciaga thing… everyone was like, ‘Why aren’t you speaking out? Why aren’t you speaking out?’ And I’m like, ‘Wait. I’m not in this campaign,’” Kardashian told Martinez. “‘I don’t know what’s happening. Let me take a minute to like research this.’”
The Balenciaga ambassador continued, “And then as soon as I saw what everyone was seeing on the internet and the reality of the situation, I completely spoke out and gave my thoughts.”
She added, “But because I didn’t say, ‘F— you, Balenciaga. That’s it,’ people got mad at that. So they’re mad if I don’t speak out. They’re mad if I do speak out, and if I don’t cancel.”
