'Fifty Shades' Star Dakota Johnson Is Over the Taboo Surrounding Sex
“I’m like, Oh, my God, their poor vaginas.’”
Fifty Shades‘ Dakota Johnson dives into the world of sexual wellness in a new interview with Wall Street Journal.
Since joining the sexual wellness brand, maude, as creative director in 2020, Johnson has officially marked her curatorial debut with “Modern Sex: 100 Years of Design and Decency. Debuting at the Museum of Sex in Miami, the informative and sensual exhibit walks the viewer through the history of sexual wellness.
“Honestly, I think about the vibrators that were made [in the 1920s and ‘30s],” she began when asked about the “most unusual artifact” she discovered creating this exhibit. “They’re called ‘cure-alls,’ or they’re marketed as a full body or face [massager] and look like they are meant to work on cars,” she joked before adding “I’m like, Oh, my God, their poor vaginas.’”
For fans of the kinky Fifty Shades franchise, Johnson’s foray into sex and wellness is a no brainer — and she’d agree. The film was her first major role and now, at 34 years old, she’s continued her mission of empowering women, as she shared in her 2022 interview with Elle.
Despite working with leading sexual wellness brand maude in 2020, she finds that sexual wellness — an essential for femmes — is increasingly taboo. The “most interesting and also maybe the most alarming is just how we’re still fighting to talk about sexual wellness,” she admitted. “I’m excited for this exhibition to spark conversations around how we approach it.
