Chopova Lowena's FW23 Collection Is What Angsty, Teenage Dreams Are Made Of

In a lookbook dubbed “Conversations with Angels.”

It is fair to say Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Irons’ eponymously label Chopova Lowena is loved and appraised by all fashion enthusiasts — subversive and non-subversive. And who can blame them? The creative duo understands youth, especially those that are often represented as outcasts.

Yet, for the folkloric label, angsty teens and party punks are essentially what fuel the imprint’s powerful designs. Now, despite the largest round of applause for their debut show last Spring/Summer 2023 season, Chopova Lowena returned to London Fashion Week yesterday with a very unapologetic Fall/Winter 2023 lookbook. Titled “Conversations with Angels,” the move was certainly representative of the label’s tradition of breaking and defying conventions.

The seasonal silhouettes revealed an unwavering powerful vision that proved gender is just a construct. Of course, the imprint’s signature skirt with metal clips was present, but the focus this season was on Kurt Cobain-inspired grunge ensembles — take, for example, the pink and black fuzzy striped hand warmers or the distressed denim.

Other highlights included little black dolly dresses covered in demonic mice cartoons, leather ensembles, gingham trousers and utilitarian bomber jackets. Overall, we can say teenage stroppiness suits them, and perhaps it suits us, after all, it is a growing fashion moment hard not wanting to be part of.

Take a look at Chopova Lowevan’s relentless FW23 lookbook above.

In other fashion news, here are seven designers to watch during this London Fashion Week season.
