How the Women of SHEIN Are Creating an Equitable Workplace

Celebrating the fashion company’s female leaders in honor of Women’s History Month.

As a means to bring fashion into the future, SHEIN, the global fashion and lifestyle e-tailer, has remained committed to making the beauty of fashion accessible to all. By leading the development of alternative processes and technologies, the fashion company has reached more than 150 countries by providing an innovative shopping experience, offering choice, reducing inventory pressure and waste along with creating an equitable workplace regardless of gender.

To hone in on the ways in which women have made a positive, impactful change in the workplace for Women’s History Month, SHEIN is honoring its female leaders by having them share personal stories and anecdotes on what leadership means to them. With women making up over 56% of their global workforce, the fashion company’s leaders cite that change can be enacted through: empowering conversations that uplift rather than tear down, creating a safe space that allows for open dialogue and constructive feedback, developing programs and partnerships with female entrepreneurs through its SHEIN X program and college students through its Campus Ambassador program as a way to create opportunities along with ways in which its leadership can pave the future forward.

“We want our employees, especially women and regardless of title, to feel empowered to speak up in times of adversity, contribute ideas and make great decisions in their roles that will leave a lasting impact on the brand,” said Maxine Silva, senior director of brand PR. “These are important factors towards a more equitable future,” she adds.

See some of the women who makeup SHEIN’s leadership team and how they empower themselves as well as other women in the workplace in celebration of Women’s History Month, and every day.

“It’s important to empower other women, but  equally important to empower yourself. I do this by being my unapologetic authentic-self — but also  being able to recognize and apologize if  I was wrong.”

Jane Lee, Director of Brand Partnerships womens history month shein female leaders advice leadership

“I find empowerment with other women in the workplace through honest conversation and with myself by always being approachable. Having tough conversations with women fresh in their careers on what to expect in the workplace as a woman lead helps prepare them for the future.”

Caitrin Watson, Director of Sustainability womens history month shein female leaders advice leadership

“SHEIN touches so many women’s lives and has been an empowering force in many of their careers. It is important for me to take this work further – to spread awareness about sustainability to my colleagues, our suppliers, our brand partners, and our customers so we can all contribute to the industry’s sustainability journey.”

Leanna Yang, Sr. Marketing Manager, SHEIN X womens history month shein female leaders advice leadership

“What women bring to the table in any workplace and role is valuable and needs to be recognized. So I encourage women to always know their worth and reach for the stars in their careers.”

Michelle De Guzman, Retail Marketing Manager  womens history month shein female leaders advice leadership

“Communication is a powerful tool and its empowering to let your voice to be heard and not let your insecurities get the best of you, especially in the workplace.”

Devyn Pritchard, Campus Ambassador Coordinator womens history month shein female leaders advice leadership

“We should be understanding and aware of life outside of work that can affect women’s mental and emotional health, which in turn can affect productivity. It’s important to recognize how important self-care and work, life balance is.”
