Gabrielle Union's New Rom-Com Fuels A "Cougar" Debate

Is it sexist?

Gabrielle Union and Netflix announce their upcoming romantic film, The Perfect Find.

Premiering on Netflix this year, the juicy rom-com follows Jenna (played by Union) as she gets fired from her high-profile job and a very public breakup. In what appears to be a mid-life crisis for the 40-something career woman, she falls for a charming, “younger coworker — who happens to be her boss’s son,” the film’s description reads.

The film was just announced today but has already garnered attention over Jenna’s love interest, just as Union hoped. “The only person that was on every single person’s list in top one or two positions was Keith,” Union told Vanity Fair. “Everyone was like, ‘Okay, that might be a slightly younger person that people might throw it all away for.’” And she was correct.

Fans have already connected to the onscreen pairing and are losing it as the film taps 2022’s most controversial dating trend: age gap dating. Thanks to Billie Eilish and Leonardo DiCaprio‘s dating lives, the topic trended for the latter half of the year. However, the controversy is not new as the term cougar has been a red flag for ages. But just as TV personality Katie Maloney from Vanderpump Rules questioned in Season 10 of the series, there are no terms for older men who date younger women, ironically.

In other news, is dating rich men a poor investment?
