& Other Stories is joining forces with Sindiso Khumalo to release a colorful co-lab collection.
Overflowing with uber-saturated garments and thoughtfully made accessories, the collaborative presentation effortlessly captures the South African brand’s infectiously bright spirit. “As an African designer, what truly matters to me is designing clothing that can highlight my heritage and history, while bringing it to light in a contemporary setting. I like to bring cultural elements that represent who I am into textiles,” Khumalo shares in an exclusive press release.
The joint offering is ripe with textiles, all designed by Khumalo and crafted with sustainably sourced materials. “It’s essential for me to use more sustainable materials and to create garments that are going to be long-lasting,” she adds. Dresses serve as the assortment’s main silhouette, arriving in a swath of textures and shades. A rainbow crotchet shift dances alongside voluminous mini frocks with blue-tipped hems. Meanwhile, vibrant patchwork depicting native wildlife adorns matching sets comprised of jacket and shorts, reimagining the summer suit. Elsewhere, geometric patterns add life to the already vivacious collection, nodding to Khumalo’s roots with the addition of protea, a South African indigenous plant. Joining it is the cowrie shell, which appears both in print and in the form of necklaces and bracelets, signifying abundance, luck and wealth. Swimwear also rounds out the collection, providing a beautifully colored option for aquatic activities.
