Vivienne Westwood Unveils "Corsets – 1987 to Present Day"
An exhibition on the brand’s most revered garment.
Further honoring Vivienne Westwood‘s invaluable legacy and impact on fashion, the British house is launching Vivienne Westwood: Corsets — 1987 to Present Day, an exhibition dedicated to the brand’s signature silhouette.
The specially curated retrospective makes its debut in London on May 8, during London Craft Week. Emphasizing Westwood’s revolutionary subversion of underwear into outerwear, the exhibition features iconic runway looks, alongside Andreas Kronthaler‘s reimagined versions of the garment. As a whole, the display expertly illustrates the corset’s inextricable link to culture and fine art throughout time.
Joining the exhibition is a limited-edition jewelry collection, which showcases a 3D charm of the Westwood Portrait corset. The legendary design originally arrived in the brand’s Harris Tweed Fall/Winter 1987/88 collection, but was bathed in a metallic gold for the following season, earning the title,”Time Machine.” In honor of the exhibition, the corset appears as a gold plated charm on a necklace and bracelet, offering a lustrous pearl or gold plated chain and matching clip earrings.
