Simone Rocha is set to assume the role of the fifth guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture label. This opportunity follows in the footsteps of couturiers such as Julien Dossena of Rabanne, Haider Ackerman, Olivier Rousteing from Balmain, Glenn Martens representing Y/Project and Diesel, and Chitose Abe of Sacai. Notably, Rocha will be the inaugural UK-based designer to lead the Gaultier couture collection.

The collaboration was made public by Rocha herself through an Instagram story, where she posted a picture of a floral bouquet and a signed note from Jean Paul Gaultier, offering congratulations for her London Fashion Week show and hinting at their forthcoming rendezvous in Paris. A spokesperson for the brand subsequently confirmed the news.

Rocha, a designer of Chinese-Irish descent, introduced herself to the fashion world by making her on-schedule debut at London Fashion Week with Fashion East in 2010, the same year she graduated from the prestigious fashion MA program at Central Saint Martins.

Her renowned signature style, which blends romanticism with a subversive form of femininity, has led to the establishment of four standalone stores in London, New York, Hong Kong and Taiwan. She has previously collaborated with brands like J Brand, and Moncler, and served as the Designer Collaborator for H&M in 2021. Her interpretation of Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture will be presented in Paris in January 2024.

Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
