Maison Bent Celebrates Black History With Limited-Edition Jersey at Frieze Art Week

Bringing the culture to England Football.

During Frieze Art Week, London-based fashion label Maison Bent turned the spotlight on the pitch, debuting a grassroots kit collaboration with England Football that merged high culture with homegrown pride. Launched during Black History Month in the UK, the jersey is a celebration of Black British football culture. Paying homage to Viv Anderson – the first Black man to play for England – the shirt arrives in gold stripes loosely-inspired by ’80s Three Lions attire.

Maison Bent‘s signature Queen Nanny of the Maroons print covers the jersey in a gradient green and bronze design, celebrating Jamaica‘s only female national hero and a symbol of freedom.

The collaboration is a first for the FA, creating a garment that is as culturally profound as it is wearable. Founder Shanna Bent’s designs draw heavily on the African diaspora and Jamaican history and culture in particular. Bringing that perspective to grassroots football, she created a kit rooted in Blackness for a historically white-majority institution.

The jersey was unveiled during an event at Chelsea’s stadium, during which Canoville and Kerry Davis – Chelsea’s first Black player and the first Black Lioness, respectively – spoke about the importance of representation in football.

On the collaboration and design process, the creative director shared in a press release, “For me, this shirt is about honoring the people who changed the landscape of football and the people who continue to do so quietly today.”

At the moment, there aren’t any plans to release the jersey to the public, but as the 2026 World Cup approaches, that might change.

In other news, Lululemon and Erewhon dropped a capsule collaboration.
