Here’s Your First Look at Simone Ashley and Anne Hathaway in the 'Devil Wears Prada 2'

Let’s catch you up on everything you need to know.

The Devil Wears Prada is on every fashion girlies top five list of movies. From Miranda Priestly’s (played by Meryl Streep) cerulean side eye to that dream closet, it captures everything we love – and hate – about the industry. As of July 2024, it’s been confirmed that the girls are getting a Devil Wears Prada sequel. Here’s everything we know about the long-awaited film, from casting chaos to the messy plot and release date.

According to TikTok fandom, the girls are already filming the sequel. Bridgerton‘s Simone Ashley was spotted exiting the New York City set with co-star Pauline Chalamet from the Sex Lives of College Girls. In another TikTok, Hathaway and Stanley Tucci from the original DWP were spotted filming through a window.

Although most fans in the comments ate it up, others begged for privacy at this time. One commented, “Can we have no spoilers and actually enjoy this movie when it comes out?” Thankfully for that fan, one star we’ve yet to see a sneak peek of is Emily Blunt, the actor behind the iconic character Emily.

Ironically, in 2022, Anne Hathaway shared that a second film wouldn’t make sense. She said, “I don’t know if there can be [a sequel]. I just think that movie was in a different era. Now, everything has gone so digital, and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing, and it’s just very different now.” But, as of July 2025, the sequel has not only been confirmed, but recent news confirms the return of several key faces, too.

So far, the sequel will feature Anne Hathaway as Andy, Meryl Streep as Miranda, Emily Blunt as Emily, Tracie Thoms as Lily and Stanley Tucci as Nigel. On July 9, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley posted a red heel on her Instagram story and confirmed that she’s joining the cast. According to Variety, the cast will also feature iconic actors Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, The Office’s B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet from The Sex Lives of College Girls.

As for who’s not returning, fans will be happy to learn that Andy’s boyfriend, Nate Cooper (played by Adrian Grenier), will not return. The two broke up at the end of the original movie, which melted the hearts of many after he openly questioned her career. The film’s stacked cast has led to a hilarious trend on social media, however. Every other tweet is a faux news reveal of their favorite actor confirmed as the next cast addition. From Katy Perry to Awkwafina, no one’s off limits.

Now, we can’t talk about the iconic sequel without the original film’s costume designer, Patricia Field. It’s pure speculation at this point with no confirmations, but it appears she’s booked and busy with And Just Like That… with no sign of re-entering the DWP universe. If you didn’t know, she’s the icon behind the original’s best looks — which she scraped together using her fashion industry contacts. The loaned costumes totaled about $1 million USD.

Adding more to the mystery, the synopsis has been kept under wraps with no confirmation on whether the sequel will be titled The Devil Wears Prada 2. However, People has reported that viewers will witness a shift in power dynamics, specifically between Emily and Miranda. No longer Miranda’s assistant, Emily works at a luxury fashion advertising agency and Miranda is struggling to keep the lights on at Runway Magazine. Deadline reported, “The film is expected to feature Miranda Priestly’s perspective as the fierce editor-in-chief faces the decline of the print industry.” As for Andy’s storyline, that’s still a mystery as there are conflicting reports, with none yet confirmed by Disney.

According to Deadline, Disney confirmed it began production on June 30, 2025. The alleged release date is May 1, 2026, but none of the cast members have confirmed. For those eager, dive into the “Devil Wears Prada” book sequel, “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.” Spoiler alert: DWP2 is loosely inspired by the book sequel, so no promises there. The book plot reads, “Andy Sachs (who still shudders to hear Miranda Priestly’s name even ten years later) teams up with her former Runway nemesis, First Assistant Emily, to start a high-end bridal magazine and, of course, encounters Miranda along the way.”

Thankfully, the sequel is being developed under 20th Century Studios, which also developed the first film. The original screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, will also return with key cast members, hinting that this revival may truly be worth the hype. One thing’s for sure, we’re hoping Anna Wintour returns to the red carpet in Prada, as she did at DWP‘s Broadway premiere. Savage.

Stay tuned for more updates.

In other news, a major Schiaparelli exhibit is coming to the V&A in the UK. Elsewhere, Cardi B is the best dressed at Paris Couture Week.
