Byredo's Latest Scent Is a Celebration of African Dance
“Bal d’Afrique” has arrived.
Drawing inspiration from the dances of Africa, Byredo introduces its newest fragrance “Bal d’Afrique.” Described as floral and musky, the perfume pays homage to the art of Africa. For the campaign, the brand tapped dancers and models from West Africa, citing their distinct cultural roots and personal narratives.
“Captured by photographer Philip-Daniel Ducasse, the campaign is approached with intimacy and restraint,” Byredo says in a press release. “His lens reveals not only the dancers, but also the spaces they inhabit, uncovering the subtle connections between body, environment and memory. Allowing movement to dictate rhythm, his imagery explores identity, presence and place with quiet intensity.”

As for the scent itself, it first opens with fresh touches of bergamot, African marigold and blackcurrant. Next, floral middle notes of violet and cyclamen symbolize the African landscape. Lastly, the scent’s base of cedarwood, vetiver, tonka bean and musks adds a warm and woody quality to the complex scent profile.
“Bal d’Afrique” retails for $330 USD and is available for purchase on the brand’s website.
