PinkPantheress on Gen Z, World Building... &Coach

We caught up with the music artist to get the inside scoop on Coach’s new platform.

Coach just launched its new &Coach platform, a space dedicated to the brand’s Gen Z fanbase and influential creative partners, which puts them at the heart of it.

Starring PinkPantheress alongside the likes of Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, Malala Yousafzai and Avantika, the platform brings together prominent Gen Z names across music, fashion, sport and art, along with cultural figures like Charli XCX, prioritizing storytelling and shared authorship.

Off the back of her recent appearance in the new campaign, we caught up with PinkPantheress to find out more about her love of the brand, where her inspiration comes from and, in her opinion, what makes Gen Z special.

Scroll down to read the full interview.

Tell us a bit about working with Coach for its new &Coach launch and campaign, how did it come about?
It’s been fun to establish some more lore within this launch and cool to see the fans respond to the reintroduction of a past stage staple of mine: emotional support purse. I think it ultimately contributes to the world building of “Fancy That”.

The platform centers around platforming Gen Z and younger voices, how would you describe the generation and what do you think are some of the most common misconceptions of it?
I’d say we’re commonly viewed as unserious, but I’d say Gen Z practices more discernment in what we put our time/energy into.

Who are some of the old school voices that you look up to or take inspiration from?
I take a lot of inspiration from those around me more than anything. Besides my friends, I always reference Imogen Heap and Gerard Way when talking about music that pushed me forward. They’ve both had such a strong influence in my creative process.

It feels like Gen Z loves a bit of nostalgia, given the rise in y2k style and retro fashion trends. What do you love about that aesthetic and what are some of your favorite styles right now?
I loved the individuality! I think fashion in the 2000s was about more unique pieces and less about cohesion, and that type of originality via mismatched pieces and experimental layering really can’t be beat.

That era feels like something that Coach does really well, what’s your favorite Coach piece that you own, old or new, and why?
I feel like Coach does the 2000s really well. One of my favorite pieces I own is this 2005 silver and gray patchwork bag. I actually have a couple Coach patchwork bags in my collection. I really like the eclectic one-of-a-kind quality that the patchwork bags have. I love kitschy styles like that.

How does the brand fit into your own personal style at the moment, and how would you describe your style?
Right now I’ve been into a lot of color blocking and clean lines so I’ve been playing around with styling some of the tabby bags since they have this sleek ’90s look to them.

Finally, how do you see your relationship with Coach evolving, any collaborations in your future?
I would like to see where the emotional support purse trope lands and exploring storylines through fashion innovation intrigues me…
