Rick Owens x Birkenstock's New Collab Includes Not Only Sandals, but Also Tactical Boots

A series of pop-ups will launch in Europe and Asia to celebrate the release.

Following their inaugural collaboration launched in April, 2018, which featured calf hair-covered sandals, Rick Owens and Birkenstock have returned to present Season 2 of their partnership. For Spring/Summer 2019, the two brands have linked up once again to create a range of unisex footwear that doesn’t only limit to slip-ons.

Staying true to the DNA of Rick Owens, the new collection is designed with a consistent color scheme of black, milky white and muted metallics. In addition to a high fashion take on Birkenstock’s classic Arizona silhouette, as characterized by the elongated straps, the upcoming release is also made up of the Rotterdam sandal (which we previewed in this editorial last fall) as well as the Rotterhiker boot. Both styles are utility inspired and are completed with metal buckles and velcro straps.

The aforementioned styles mark the first part of the second collaboration between Rick Owens and Birkenstock, with more SS19 designs slated to launch in March this year.

The new, co-branded Arizona, Rotterdam and Rotterhiker styles will be unveiled in a series of pop-ups, with the first being held at Le Bon Marché in Paris on January 17, followed by launch events at I.T in Hong Kong (January 23) and Shanghai (January 25) hosted by Michèle Lamy.

Priced between €287 EUR (approx. $430 USD) and €522 ($780 USD), the collaboration will be available at Birkenstock’s website and across all Rick Owens channels on February 8.
