Karlie Kloss Shares The Real Reason Why She Quit Working with Victoria's Secret

She officially departed the brand in 2015.

With its fashion shows no longer airing on network television, Victoria’s Secret models had become icons for young women worldwide. Having been a VS Angel herself, Karlie Kloss revealed the real reason for cutting ties with the underwear brand in a recent interview with Vogue UK.

The supermodel made her decision when she started studying feminist theory at New York University’s Gallatin School and realized the brand’s messages didn’t match with her own views. The ex-Angel told Vogue UK:

“The reason I decided to stop working with Victoria’s Secret was I didn’t feel it was an image that was truly reflective of who I am and the kind of message I want to send to young women around the world about what it means to be beautiful. I think that was a pivotal moment in me stepping into my power as a feminist, being able to make my own choices and my own narrative, whether through the companies I choose to work with, or through the image I put out to the world.”

Kloss first began working with Victoria’s Secret in 2011 and became an Angel two years later. Two years after that, the model gave up her position when she began her studies at NYU in 2015. Back when her departure was confirmed, the lingerie brand’s chief marketing officer, Ed Razek, announced it was due to the model not having enough time to balance the job with all of her other commitments. Since then, Kloss walked her final Victoria’s Secret runway at the brand’s Shanghai fashion show in 2017.
