Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS Reveal Sleek & Sporty Gessirit Sneaker Collaboration
Where the past and future collide.
We just saw ASICS‘ latest Gel Lyte 3.1 collaboration with KITH on the New York Fashion Week runway. Now, the footwear brand is releasing a sneaker with London-based designer Kiko Kostadinov.
Coming in two colors, the entirely new Gessirit silhouette was developed by the label’s womenswear designers Laura and Deanna Fanning after a visit to ASCIS’ headquarters in Kobe, Japan. The two sneakers are a part of Kiko Kostadinov’s Fall/Winter 2019 women’s collection which is inspired by nineteenth-century Central American “bandidas,” who were fearless women that rebelled against the establishment. Taken by their strong, feminine spirit, Laura and Deanna Fanning reimagined the clothes as what the group of women would wear in an alternate, futuristic reality.
The sneakers fit well into the theme of bringing the past and future together. Laura and Deanna pulled references from performance wear archives and created the upper based on vintage track and field shoes. The sole is reminiscent of old school wrestling sneakers featuring snug encasings. Designed with suede and micro-mesh, a futuristic aspect is added with metallic overlays and silver rings attached to triple-strap fastening.
A “Heritage Blue/Imperial” colorway arrives in tonal royal blue and aqua. For a more neutral look, the “Dark Taupe/Sheet Rock” features a grey, white and beige upper with dusty pink details. Both shoes have a glossy finish, making them bold enough to be statement pieces but sleek enough for everyday wear. Scroll through the scrapbook-themed lookbook above to get a closer look at the sneakers.
Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS’ Gessirit sneaker collaboration will have an initial release exclusively at Dover Street Market on September 13 with a global release following on a later date.
