Gucci Wraps Up 'GucciFest' Film Festival With Billie Eilish, Florence Welch and More
Unveiling the complete “OUVERTURE” collection.
UPDATE (November 23, 2020): Over the past week, Alessandro Michele showcased “OUVERTURE,” his new collection for Gucci, through a seven-part film series co-directed with Gus Van Sant. The designer has now premiered all episodes, unveiling the full range for the luxury house.
Following an installment featuring Harry Styles in an Italian-dubbed dialogue, more stars like Billie Eilish and Florence Welch appear throughout. With Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” serving as the background music for the first half of the film, the “bad guy” singer is later seen performing her new track “Therefore I Am” for the first time on television. Boston Dynamics‘ dog-like robots dance alongside the musician, who is dressed in a purple hoodie contrasted with yellow prints. Meanwhile, in the sixth installment, Welch walks into a vintage store wearing a felted hat and ivory dress, while reciting a poem she quickly scribbles down in her notebook.

ORIGINAL STORY (November 19, 2020): Straying away from traditional presentation formats, Gucci announced earlier this month that it would present its newest “OUVERTURE of Something that Never Ended” collection through a virtual festival dubbed GucciFest. Aiming to spotlight emerging designers through a series of fashion films, the luxury house has unveiled its “At the Post Office” episode featuring Harry Styles.
The new project arrives as a seven-part miniseries led by creative director Alessandro Michele and director Gus Van Sant. The first installment of the film follows the story of main character Silvia Calderoni as she meets an unexpected visitor during an ordinary day at home. In the second episode, dubbed “At the Café,” Calderoni is joined by Arlo Parks, captured in a vintage style influenced by Italian cinema. Part three of the series stars Harry Styles, who engages in a telephone conversation with Italian art critic Achille Bonito Olivia.
Worn by actors throughout the clips, the “OUVERTURE” collection is comprised of new designs by Michele as well as re-edition pieces from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2015 lineup. By the end of the festival, we will have seen a total of 97 looks from the designer.
In addition to “OUVERTURE,” Gucci is highlighting emerging creatives in the field of fashion. Names featured so far include Collina Strada, Ahluwalia, Rui Zhou, Gui Rosa, Bianca Saunders and Mowalola. Stay tuned for more from the week-long virtual event.
