Nike's New Air Force 1 and Air Max 98 Feature Customizable, Tear-Away Uppers

A colorful design hides behind classic white.

Nike is set to release two interactive, customizable versions of its classic Air Force 1 and Air Max 98 sneakers. The “Sportswear” pack adds a thin, outer layer of material to the upper of each shoe. This outer layer can be peeled back to reveal as much — or as little — of a colorful lower layer concealed beneath.

A white, gauze-like upper layer on both models is marked with “Tear Here” indications, a visual statement in-and-of-itself. The hidden layer of the Air Force 1 features vibrant hits of yellow, purple and red at the lateral, as well as a blue toe. A black Swoosh and neon green logo at the tongue add contrast. The Air Max 98 takes a similar approach with a bright green and blue lateral striped with pops of red. Yellow and orange are placed at the toe and heel, respectively.

Nike’s Air Force 1 and Air Max 98 “Sportswear” pack releases later this spring at Nike’s website and app.
