Teyana Celebrates the Class of 2020 With New Self-Directed Music Video, "Made It"
“…this pandemic can’t stop your spirit, it can’t dim your light, and it can’t take your degree away from you!!”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many public events have unfortunately been banned, including graduation commencements. In order to adhere to health regulations related to COVID-19, seniors of the Class of 2020 have not been able to commemorate this important stage of their lives. In order to acknowledge the hard work of these graduates, Teyana Taylor – who is definitely no stranger to social activism and community involvement – has released her latest self-directed music video, “Made It,” in which she also stars.
The topic is near and dear to Teyana, since she herself never had the opportunity to formally attend her high school graduation. While already being signed to a recording contract during that time, the singer finished up her degree through home schooling and in the end, received her high school diploma at a Starbucks café. Riding off of this memory, Teyana’s production company The Aunties made an announcement several weeks ago that they would be looking for 2020 graduates to virtually participate in the production for her new single, “Made It.” Unsurprisingly, the response was overwhelming.
As a result of the fan-sourced effort, the artist’s latest video is a powerful homage to our generation’s youth and a testament to their resilience during these strange and difficult times. On Instagram, Teyana also shared a heartwarming message to the graduates:
“YOU MADE IT!!!!!!! Class of 2020 this is for you!!!! First and foremost, Thank you to ALL the graduates that contributed to the video! I truly appreciate you & happy to celebrate YOU!!! Unfortunately, this pandemic has stopped us from physically gathering and celebrating all the hard work you’ve put in through the years But this pandemic can’t stop your spirit, it can’t dim your light, and it can’t take your degree away from you!! So when you make it out of this dark time, shine bright and light up the world! Congratulations to the class of 2020, YOU MADE IT!! PEACE & LOVE! ❤️❤️❤️❤️”
