eSkootr is the World's First E-Scooter Racing Championship

Promoting the sustainability benefits of electric scooters.

Electric scooters have taken over many large cities around the world, despite being banned in some areas due to safety concerns. One thing we know for a fact, though, is that e-scooters are less harmful to the environment in comparison to cars – which is the whole inspiration behind eSkootr, the world’s first e-scooter racing championship.

Developed by a group of Formula 1 and Formula E drivers, the Electric Scooter Championship will have competitors race against each other on high-speed, custom-built vehicles. Organizers of the new sport aim “to make international motorsport more accessible, affordable and sustainable than ever before,” according to an official press release. Officially dubbed the eSkootr Championship, the competition’s first season will be taking place at “a series of specially designed urban venues in some of the world’s most cosmopolitan and progressive cities.”

Scooters used in the race will be capable of reaching 100 kilometers per hour. eSkootr has revealed that it is currently in the process of developing a prototype of the first race model that will be unveiled to the public later this year. In an official video introducing the championship, racers are dressed in neon uniforms, creating scenes reminiscent of those from the movie Tron.

Watch the launch video for eSkootr above. The inaugural season of the eSkootr Championship is slated to kick off in 2021.
