Mercedes-Benz Taps Virgil Abloh to Create One-of-a-Kind Piece Inspired by G-Class
A replica of the artwork will be auctioned off later this year.
Continuing his roster of collaborative projects including the most recent women’s Air Jordan 4, Virgil Abloh has now joined Mercedes-Benz to create an artistic version of the G-Class model, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. Titled Project Geländewagen, the partnership aims to support the creative industries.
A one-of-a-kind, home-scale replica of the artwork created along with the automotive label’s Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener is slated to be auctioned off following its official launch in September. All proceeds will go towards supporting the arts industry, while the winner of the auction will receive exclusive access to the co-creators to learn more about the inspiration behind the piece.
“Mercedes-Benz is a brand that stands for luxury and exceptional performance. Truly a perfect chassis to interject modern artists’ ideas of what the future can be stylistically, within conceptual car design,” Abloh mentioned in a press release, while Wagener added, “One major reason for [Mercedes-Benz's] success story is [its] aesthetic soul and unique style.”
The Virgil Abloh x Mercedes-Benz art piece is scheduled to be revealed virtually on September 8. You can head over to Mercedes-Benz’s website to learn more.
