Sundae School Escapes From Reality Through Its Pre-Fall 2020 "The Butterfly Dream" Collection
Daydreaming of a world where in-person interactions are normalized.
A New York-based smokewear label co-founded by Dae Lim and Mia Park, Sundae School has now introduced its Pre-Fall 2020 collection. Dubbed “호접지몽 (The Butterfly Dream),” the range explores an alternate reality where a pandemic is non-existent and in-person interactions are normalized.
Taking inspiration from Zhuang Zi’s poem of the same title where he imagines himself as a fluttering butterfly, the streetwear brand’s latest is an escape from the current global climate. Using the butterfly as a metaphor, the latest lineup features signature motifs throughout atop matching tie-dyed sets. Text graphics like “Somnio Ergo Sum (I Dream Therefore I Am)” highlight the collection, along with illustrations of skeletons and butterflies surrounding a fountain of blood. Items also include a new take on the Jeogori, the upper garment of Korea’s traditional hanbok.
Peep the full range above. Sundae School’s “The Butterfly Dream” will be arriving on August 2 at 4:20 p.m. EST over at the label’s online store, with prices ranging from $42 USD to $420 USD.
