Buffy of 'Vampire Slayer' Reboot Will Be Played by Woman of Color
Adding much-needed diversity to the beloved TV show.
Amber Benson, who played Tara Maclay on hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has revealed that the series reboot will star a woman of color as Buffy Anne Summers, originally portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Plans for the remake, helmed by executive producer Joss Whedon and showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen, were announced back in 2018. Though the full lineup remains a mystery, Benson disclosed exciting new information on the cast to Digital Spy: ”I was so excited because Joss [Whedon] was involved, a woman of color was going to be running the show, and Buffy was going to be a woman of color,” she said. “I thought that was really important.”
Stay tuned as more updates on the Buffy reboot emerge.
