2021 Grammy Awards Postponed Due to Rising COVID-19 Concerns
“Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community.”
With the rising numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases in California, the Recording Academy has announced that the 2021 Grammys has been postponed. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on January 31.
While not much has been revealed, organizers had shared previously that the upcoming event would be mostly virtual, BBC reports. “The deteriorating COVID-19 situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do,” an official statement reads. “Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.”
The awards ceremony, now pushed back to March 14, will feature the likes of Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa with leading nominations this year. In case you missed it, check out the full list of nominees.
