K-Pop's Largest Entertainment Companies To Debut New Idol Groups This Year
YG is preparing a new girl group, while JYP and SM are set to debut boy bands.
The K-pop industry is preparing for hopefully another record-breaking year with new idol groups on the way. According to Newsis, some of the biggest entertainment companies – SM, YG, JYP and Big Hit – are set to debut new music acts in addition to star producers Rain and PSY.
Big Hit, the company behind BTS, will be introducing its first girl group in nine years. The upcoming project will be directed by CBO Min Hee Jin, who has previously conceptualized Girls’ Generation and f(x). The company, which owns a branch in Japan, will also be developing a group solely dedicated to the country.
Kicking off with Treasure‘s first studio album release, YG will be launching an all-female act. Meanwhile, PSY is planning to build a band through an audition show titled LOUD for his company P NATION. Rain, who runs his own label, Rain Company, is set to debut his first seven-member group dubbed CIIPHER. Elsewhere, SM and JYP are reportedly developing new boy groups for 2021.
