UPDATE (May 3, 2021): In honor of the first Monday of May – which would have been when the Met Gala took place – Vogue has officially announced its lineup of co-chairs for the upcoming event: Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman. The stars will arrive alongside honorary chairs Tom Ford, Anna Wintour and Instagram‘s Adam Mosseri.
In addition to the star-studded roster, the Costume Institute shared more details on the evening. The first gala will take place on September 13, 2021, followed by the second on May 2, 2022, to celebrate the two-part exhibition. Set to open on September 18, the In America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibit will “explore a modern vocabulary of American fashion,” while Part Two – In America: An Anthology of Fashion – will open on May 5, 2022, to “explore the development of American fashion by presenting narratives that relate to the complex and layered histories of those spaces.” Both shows will close on September 5, 2022.
You can head to Vogue to check out all of the details on the upcoming Met Gala.
ORIGINAL STORY (May 2, 2021): Following last year’s cancellation, the Met Gala is making a grand return this coming September with an American fashion theme. Co-hosting the two-part event will be Timothée Chalamet alongside poet Amanda Gorman and designer Tom Ford, Page Six reports.
Although Chalamet has never been to fashion’s biggest event in the past, the Call Me By Your Name star has received much attention for his style featuring the likes of Haider Ackermann, Gucci, Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton. Not many details have been revealed just yet, but the Oscar-winning actor will be attending the two-part show that has been pushed back to September from its regular early May schedule.
Stay tuned as we learn more. The Met Gala will be taking place on September 13 followed by a larger event on May 2, 2022.
