Brooklyn-Based Madelen Nyau Launches First T1TAN STUDIOS Collection
Fusing science with fashion.
Clothing retailer Fred Segal just launched the first collection from Madelen Nyau, winner of the second annual Season Zero design contest. The Zambian-born, Brooklyn-based designer is set to showcase her debut collection at Fred Segal’s flagship location in Sunset Blvd., where her designs will be available for purchase until January.
Nyau’s brand, T1TAN STUDIOS, seeks to explore concepts driven by science, psychology and quantum mechanics, with the name itself derived from Greek mythology. The brand aims to offer silhouettes that empower one’s physical power and spirit, through Nyau’s belief that clothes are exist to enhance life.
The brand’s debut collection is driven by the relationship between the body, space and objects, with a particular focus on the concept of the work chair. Through the collection, Nyau explores the chair’s role within our lives, in a physical, emotional and spiritual sense. Her designs explore the construction of furniture, evaluating their influence on productivity and focus, exploring structure, function and comfort.
The collection sees a range of exaggerated silhouettes, oversized bottoms and “upright” tops, with a unisex line comprised of knit tops, denim coats, pleated dresses and unwaxed canvas pants. Utilizing fabrics like wool, crochet thread, polytech and twill, the collection introduces Shima Seiki technology in order to create a stiff construction within its knitwear.
