You Can Rent Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Final NYC Apartment and Studio for $60K USD per Month

In case you’re hoping to live inside art history and are sitting on a cool $720,000 USD, you can Jean-Michel Basquiat‘s final New York apartment and studio can be yours.

The legendary artist’s last abode is on the market as the artist lived in worked in the Bowery location from 1983 until his death in 1988. The apartment itself has a famous history as it was originally built in 1860s and owned by old-school gangster Paolo Antonio Vaccarelli, also known as Paul Kelly. After Kelly’s stay, the building was used as a metal works business and kitchen supply company until Andy Warhol purchased the building in 1970.

Subsequently, Basquiat rented the second floor from fellow artist and friend Andy Warhol. A plaque installed by Village Preservation, an architectural conservation society, rests on the building’s facade reading, “Basquiat’s paintings and other work challenged established notions of high and low art, race and class, while forging a visionary language that defied characterization.”

The building is decorated with street art dedicated to the inimitable artist who is known for his early graffiti work as a member of SAMO. Real estate agency Meridian Capital Group lists Basquiat’s last home as an “open loft space with high ceilings and multiple skylights.”

The space is located on 57 Great Jones Street.
